Light pollution

leave a comment »

Here is the start to my latest project. I am quite un sure on what direction to take my photography in now, what genre and market. Maybe time to centre it around my future aspirations more and start creating a clear direction towards my future.

This small body of work stems on from my project documenting Quarry’s. With the same idea to document the visual pollution on my local landscape. This time documenting light pollution around the North East of England. These images are at several industrial locations including gas production, steel works and oil refineries.

Tattoo artists

These images we inspired by Vermeer (17 century Dutch painter). Taking elements like directional chiaroscuro lighting, strong colours and objects of significance which I think translates into interesting environmental portraits. The subjects are the tattoo artists and not the shops customers. I find how they represent there interests, passion and job on there own body’s like a canvas intresting

A little different from the three shots above but I wanted to show my first idea and my starting point that I progressed from. I thought the tattoo artists would make for more interesting subjects to photograph. Photographs taken for my friend of her children.

I am hoping to keep my post’s very frequent from now..so we will have to see if that happens or not 🙂

Quarry Project

with 2 comments

I thought It was about time I got a blog up and running and out there in the world. With the idea to keep me motivated with photography since leaving University. I would also like to use this platform to get my work out there and to receive critique and feedback. So here is goes with the first posts and one of my latest projects…

With this body of work still on going I want to document the impact industry and production has had on my local area. The landscape either side of the River Humber has been effected a lot due to the chalk filled that fills it. Certain locations have been dug for thousands of years using the river as good transport. The stone has gone into use in the cement works, steel industry or building Hull docks for example. I am interested in how these large dug out areas look almost like natural creations due to there size, but instead an effect of Man. I would like to document the visual pollution on the landscape in relation to the bridge. Below are some recent additions to my series.
